NEW

I Corinth. 5:17 - When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun! (TLB)

Yes, we are in the New Year.  Ever think about that word new? I like one definition I read the other day,...being other than the former or old.  You know like a new car, a new stove, a new bike, new furniture, and more.  We just came out of December and Christmas, in which we celebrated God's gift of His son to this world.  Along with that I am willing to believe many of us received many new items.  I hope we did not miss the main message that was His best gift in sending Jesus, the gift of a new identity.

Today, we hear a lot about identity theft constantly.  I don't know about you but I forever when signing into places have to go to my email or phone and receive a code to make sure my identity is me.  Ever check the box that you are not a robot?

Yet, that is not all the identity that can be stolen.  We could have our identity stolen by parents who wanted us to be something else.  Or, by our peers or culture putting pressure on us to be something other than what God purposed. Many get their identity from work, friendships, or even material possessions, however those things can be taken away.

However here is the good news, the love of God can never be taken away from us.   So if we all want a new, true identity we must get it from our God, based on the fact that we are unconditionally loved and accepted by Him.  That is exactly what our insight scripture today says from the being other than the former or old in the Living Bible.

When we accept the love of God in Jesus, we receive a new identity.  No it does not mean we stop sinning, it means we are not identified with the past failures, mistakes or sins, we are identified with Christ, we are God's child.  It is like a new photo is put in the album and all the old ones are cast aside.

This new means we stop seeing ourselves like everyone else does, we starting seeing ourselves the way God does.  How by diving into the truth, and see what it says, instead of the culture of the world, because it is extremely misleading, and really does not put us in the right direction.  Here is what truth says spoken very nicely by Jesus,...

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.  And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

(John 8:31-32 N L T)

This is true new identity, knowing how loved, capable, usable, and truly accepted we are in Christ and His unconditional love, that can never be taken away like possessions, friendships, or a job. Now that truly is NEW!  It is my prayer that everyone of us has experienced the new life in Christ.  If no, why not start are the New Year, with a whole New YOU?
