HELD HOSTAGE

 

I Corinthians 13:4-5 -Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

One thing you and I can do is to learn to show mercy and not hold grudges.  Showing mercy to someone is love in action. Have you ever heard this scripture truth,..."do not fret—it leads only to evil”  Psalm 37:8

What is fretting?  It is mulling over, and over again something or someone you were wronged by.  It leads to harm, or in your mind and heart you are held hostage emotionally and mentally. 

Do you keep mental record of things when wrong, or do you let them go?  Are you quick to remind others that they offended or hurt you?  Today's insight verse says real love does not do that.  Note how in some translations it says being rude, and not holding grudges is in the same verse or context?  That is why people are rude at times, they are acting out old grudges and taking out on us or others. When living in the past they are held hostage, and not living in the present.   Listen to this precious truth from the O.T.  Leviticus 19:18-Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against any of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.

Are past grudges, holding you hostage today?  Don't do that.  Don't share your ill feelings about others with family or friends, or anyone at that.  Let them go, forgive, because all you are doing by sharing is gossiping or showing you do not have love in your heart. 

​

It is difficult to do that especially when it is a close friend.  In Psalm 52 David even admits this,..If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; Instead, it is you—my equal, my companion and close friend.

​

However when we learn to let go, and let God, we are being loving and more like Jesus.

​
